Floris Verbeeck koestert een fascinatie voor het vloeibare. Steeds opnieuw worstelt hij met het onbeheersbare, het ongrijpbare van deze materie waarmee hij uitdrukking wil geven aan zijn visie. Naar eigen zeggen is zijn voornaamste drijfveer een zoektocht naar de beheersing van zijn eigen chaos. Zijn werk belichaamt eveneens zijn persoonlijke angst voor het definitieve. Hij voelt zichzelf verplicht om binnen zijn werk te allen tijde ruimte te laten voor wat nog komen kan. Daarom creëert hij zijn prenten met materiaal dat gedurende het volledige proces manipuleerbaar blijft : kleurrijke vloeistoffen van wisselende viscositeit en transparant plexiglas. Het gladde oppervlak van de kunststof belet dat de vloeistoffen snel opdrogen. Hij doet de materie in elkaar vloeien en tekent en graveert op het kunstglas. Het opgedroogde resultaat wordt vervolgens op witte achtergrond gefotografeerd en ten slotte op vergroot formaat afgedrukt.

Floris Verbeeck a toujours éprouve une grande fascination pour l’état liquide de la matière. Il aime se battre avec cette matière insaisissable qui est comme indomptable. Il souligne que l’essentiel de sa motivation réside dans la recherche de la maitrise du chaos qui parfois le tourmente. Son travail illustre également sa vraie appréhension en face de ce qui pourrait paraitre définitif. C’est ainsi qu’il préfère réaliser des images a partir de matières qui resteront flexibles et manipulables durant tout le processus d’élaboration comme le sont les liquides de couleurs et de viscosités différentes et le plexiglas translucide. Verbeeck dessine et grave a même la matière, la surface lisse du support synthétique. Ce support offre l’avantage de permettre d’éviter que les liquides ne sèchent trop rapidement. Une fois sèche, l’image est photographiée sur un fond blanc et finalement imprimée sur grand format.

KOM ETEN in het “Dar-koom” restaurant ( van het arabische “doe zoals thuis”). Marokaanse specialiteiten: schotels, tagines, taarten, koekjes en dranken.  Terwijl de gast zich installeert zal er een gordijn gesloten worden om hem te isoleren in mijn gezelschap. Vervolgens zullen er verschiedene “privé” performances voorgesteld worden.

De performances zullen variëren naar gelang de personen en de dagen.  De keuze zal gebeuren via een Juke-box systeem: het publiek kan de performances kiezen die ze wensen te zien. De performances zullen een humoristische representatie zijn van het Noord-zuid thema, zoals vaak terugkomt in mijn werk.

Slechts 5€ voor een goede maaltijd.

Lorsque la personne s’installera, un rideau se refermera pour l’isoler, en ma compagnie. C’est alors que des actions divertissantes “privées” seront proposées.

Les actions varieront selon les jours et les personnes (le choix s’effectuera comme pour un juke-box: le public pourra choisir les actions qu’il souhaite),et seront des représentations humoristiques entre le Nord et le Sud, comme on peut en voir dans mon travail.

First idea was based in 2004 when I left my country (Slovakia) and went to Ireland to look for new horizons. A new place to live and new inspiration as well.

I followed many things in city Cork, especially the old man captured in my photos. This all happened in a 3 years period. We saw each other in a park a street, in front of a very rich Bank, which was a very sharp contrast. The fancy building of the bank and his old clothes, which he was wearing for already 3 years. His face, body, all movements did presented every fight of the Irish people, all the poorness and religious wars.

The Pieces I made are reflecting the past and history of Ireland in contrast with the future. Since 2004 I visited many countries of Europe, where I used this concept or a different one, which brought me a lot of interesting photos.

Zeven jaar geleden, op wandel met Erik, wijlen mijn tovernonkel. Ik raap een patat op van het veld naast de weg en snij er een hoofdje uit.  Op het strand of in de bedding van een rivier maak ik constructies met wat voor handen is; water en zand, klei, soms zeewier, afval…

Het leven verbeeld als een constructie van gebeurtenissen op het strand van het bestaan, het bestaan als constructie van levens op het strand van de oneindigheid, de oneindigheid als constructie van bestaan in het niets…

Een opeenstapeling van climaxen en anti-climaxen van allerhande maat, die samen dé grote climax en anti-climax vormen; leven en dood. Het oneindig grote  en het oneindig kleine, elk bestaan als universum van de inhoud. Het oneindig-wederkerig-eindige waaruit de oneindigheid is opgebouwd.

Il y a sept ans, marchant avec Erik, mon oncle magicien, j’ai ramassé une pomme de terre sur le terrain à côté de la route et j’en ai sculpté une tête. Sur la plage ou dans le lit d’une rivière, je fait des constructions avec ce que la nature m’offrait c’est à dire de l’eau et du sable, de l’argile et même parfois des algues, des déchets …

« M’ATUVU – Creative Shopwindow » is a project of JosWorld, a Designers Collective and non-profit organization that wants to inject new life into the cultural scene by means of inventive and creative projects. The exhibition space of the collective is situated in Lakensestraat, in the heart of the Brussels cultural neighbourhood. Here Josworld organizes exhibitions, but also happenings and performances. The main commitment of this all: creating a dazzling dynamism between creative persons, artistic projects and the cultural neighbourhood.

Conditions
The « M’ATUVU » shopwindow is available free of charge for individual artists or collectives for x week periods. It is specifically aimed at young and upcomming artists and tries to create an alternative movement outside the mainstream artistic scene.

There are no restrictions but we will give priority to projects that create an interaction between the exhibition space, passengers and the neighborhood. Also artists who will use the space as a temporary workspace or rehearsal space will be given priority. In our programmation we will try to find a balance between visual arts, music and performances.

Currently we open a call for artists for the period January 2010 till March 2010. The deadline for applications is August 30th.In order to apply you need to fill in the Application Form that you can find on the documents page. Please also provide us some visual material or other documents that clearly explain your project.

” M’ATUVU – creative shopwindow” est un projet de Josworld, un  collectif de créateurs et association à but non lucratif, qui s’investi dans le monde culturel par l’exposition de projets inventifs et innovants. Son local est situé dans la rue de Laken, au cœur du quartier culturel de Bruxelles. En ces lieux, Josworld accueille diverses expositions, événements et  performances artistiques. Son  objectif principal est de stimuler la connexion entre les créateurs, les projets artistiques et l’environnement culturel Bruxellois.

Conditions
La vitrine du  “M’ATUVU” est à la disposition des artistes indépendants ou des collectifs à titre gratuit et ce, pour une durée d’exposition de x semaines maximum. En s’adressant à ces jeunes artistes en devenir, elle tente de se démarquer du courant principal de la scène artistique.

Tout projet est accepté mais Josworld donnera la priorité à ceux qui créeront une cohésion entre l’espace d’exposition, le public et le quartier. Les artistes qui utiliseront le local comme espace de travail temporaire et comme salle de répétition seront également prioritaires. Josworld tente d’équilibrer sa programmation entre les arts visuels, la musique et les performances.

« Un appel aux artistes » est actuellement ouvert pour la période de Janvier 2010 à mars 2010. La date limite d’inscription est fixée au 30 Août 2009. ‘M’ATUVU – Creatieve Shopwindow’ is een project van Josworld, Designers Collective. Josworld is een non-profitorganisatie, die nieuw leven wil blazen in de culturele scène door middel van inventieve en creatieve projecten. Er zijn geen beperkingen maar er wordt voorrang gegeven aan projecten die een interactie creëren tussen de tentoonstellingsruimte, voorbijgangers en de buurt. Ook kunstenaars die de ruimte als tijdelijke werkruimte of repetitieruimte willen gebruiken zullen voorrang krijgen. In de programmatie probeert Josworld een evenwicht te zoeken tussen visuele kunsten, muziek en performances.

Momenteel lanceert Josworld een ‘call for artists’ voor de periode januari 2010 tot maart 2010. De deadline voor aanvragen is 30 Augustus 2009. Le dictionnaire défini l’intimité comme la vie intérieure profonde, la nature essentielle; ce qui reste généralement caché sous les apparences,
impénétrable à l’analyse.

L’exposition s’interroge sur le rapport très étroit qui lie un artiste à son oeuvre mais aussi le lien qui existe entre l’oeuvre et le visiteur de l’exposition.
Une oeuvre se situe en effet entre un espace public et un espace privé, dans sa création comme dans sa réception. 

Le projet de cette exposition est d’exposer des oeuvres d’artistes et de porter une réflexion sur l’espace du lieu d’exposition de manière à mettre en perspective les pratiques artistiques et le monde qui nous entoure.

Execution of some exhibition experiments for the community of Hône,
a 1000 inhabitants village in Hône, in the autonomous region of Aosta, Italy. As an introduction I presented myself and my colleagues in the residency project from their back, looking towards the city, wearing a t-shirt identifying them as artists.

An invitation to the community to take on a viewpoint of their own: towards their town, themselves, and us – the artists – being in their town.
